Service Description

Our focus is to give kids the tools to defend themselves with lessons that will positively impact their day-to-day lives. Although Brazilian jiu jitsu has proven to be one of the most effective forms of self-defence, it is the personal development of character, mindfulness, and confidence that benefits its members the most—and nowhere is this truer than for our youth. Kids Brazilian jiu jitsu starts in the Fundamentals class where kids will spend 8-12 months learning the movements and positions in Brazilian jiu jitsu. Kids are taught how to . . . Engage safely and respectfully with one another Use jiu-jitsu appropriately (consent and use both on and off the mats) Remain calm and in control during confrontation Problem solving in difficult situations Escape from various pins when others are on top of you Overcome common self-defense scenarios Body mechanics that facilitate both everyday and athletic problems from falling safely (rolls, break falls) to taking someone down with control (shooting and sprawling) The fundamentals program introduces kids to Brazilian jiu jitsu by familiarizing them with positions and situations they might encounter in self-defence and competition. This preparation will allow them to move on to the next stage of training that introduces more advances topics and submissions. *Note that no member is ever forced to compete and competition is not a requirement to advance in the curriculum.* ___ Students who graduate to the intermediate level will have access to two extra classes on Tuesday and Wednesday. These sessions focus on more in-depth concepts and techniques in BJJ. Students will begin learning techniques more in line with the adult curriculum in order to prepare them for a variety of conditions from self-defence to competition.
